Bring the Proper Identification
Ok so it isn’t like going to your spot after work to grab a dime bag, there are legalities that have to be taken care of before you can proceed with a legal weed purchase. So please for the love of the green goddess, make sure you bring your ID and if required in your state, your medical cannabis patient identification card as well. You will need these items to be able sometimes even to enter the premises, but you will absolutely not be able to make a purchase without them. Let’s face it; you don’t want to be that person, so bring your ID(s)!
Understand and Practice Dispensary Etiquette
Just like with most public places and businesses, there are certain things you can and can’t do in dispensaries, so if you aren’t sure, ask. Whether it is touching the product, taking pictures, or using a digital device, if you don’t see signs posted and it isn’t apparent that it’s allowed, don’t do it without asking.
When it comes to touching the product, in most cases with flower, this is an absolute no-no for apparent reasond. I mean c’mon, nobody wants a bag full of nugs that various strangers have touched and through the process removed valuable trichomes from them. This doesn’t mean you can’t see the product. In most dispensaries, they have setups where you can see the flower magnetized and smell it to your heart’s content through a controlled setup!
Know the Difference Between Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid – But Don’t Overstress These Aspects
Hands down, the first thing you should know is not all cannabis strains or products will produce the same effects for all users. In fact, many consumers and patients alike report feeling completely different results from some of the same strains and products that produced an entirely different experience for others.
With this in mind… when hitting a dispensary for the first time, it’s essential to know the general classifications of cannabis types. Aside from industrial hemp cultivars that are non-psychoactive, cannabis strains come in three general varieties being Sativa, Indica, or Hybrid. In general, these are the results that consumers get with each, however, it isn’t written in stone!
- Indica strains tend to provide a more intense body high that is often more relaxing than uplifting.
- Sativa strains tend to offer a more intense head high that is often more uplifting than sedating.
- Hybrids are a combination of different strains and tend to have characteristics of both Sativa and Indica strains.
Broaden Your Knowledge Regarding the Various Ways to Consume
Cannabis isn’t just smoking the bud and dispensaries offer a lot of different products. From lotions you rub on your skin and capsules you can ingest to infused candy bars, gummies, vape pens, concentrates, and sometimes even products that combine flower with concentrates as well as much more.
There are many different ways to consume, so be sure you do some research so that you know as much as possible about the products being offered. Not only will it make your experience much more enjoyable, but you will also be that much more knowledgeable about the many different ways that you can utilize this plant for better overall health and wellness as well as for getting elevated, of course!
Be Polite and Remember Budtenders Need Weed Money Too
While the peeps behind the counter may be working with legal weed, it doesn’t mean they just get to sit around smoking weed and laughing with stoners coming in and out the door. In fact, you might just be surprised at how many different rules and regulations that they must adhere to. For this reason, be polite, be prepared to spend a little time when you visit a dispensary, and don’t rush the experience. Also, be sure to tip your budtenders, because they need weed money too!
